Overview
An archipelago of eighty-four islands located approximately 51 kilometers across water southwest of Entebbe in the northwestern part of Lake Nalubaale (Lake Victoria) is Ssese Islands, Kalangala District. Inhabited by a variety of animals which are primates (Vervet and the white colobus monkeys), butterfly species, and birds like the turacos, weavers, barbets, paradise flycatcher, jewel-like pygmy kingfisher, brown-throated wattle-eye, and the African fish eagles which make it a birders paradise. Imagine untouched natural beauty, a quiet serene environment where you can sit back, relax and take in fresh air with a lot of inland and water activities that can engage each traveler is what ssese island offers.
Day 1: Transfer to Entebbe-Ssese Islands
The trip starts with a drive from your location/Airport to Entebbe Nakiwogo Landing site before 1pm. At 2pm You shall board a luxurious ferry for a 2-3 hours journey to Ssese islands specifically Bugala island and along the journey you shall enjoy the might Lake Victoria the world’s second largest fresh water lake. A gentle breeze shall encompass you as you sail away coupled with magical sunsets, sightings of numerous forested islands, sand beaches as well as various water birds. You arrive at the island just in time for sunset and shall check into your hotel.
Day 2: Birding, Nature guided walk and Island tour
Following a sumptuous breakfast, you shall be guided into the island for a 2- 3hr nature guided and village walk which leads you to explore and experience the island towns, fishing communities and villages and the island forests. The island has welcoming people whom you shall engage with and understand their day to day lives. During the nature guided walk, Vervet and the white colobus monkeys can be sighted, different tree species colorful butterflies, insects, lizards can be sighted.
Ssese islands is a home to various bird species and during your bird watching birds like brown-throated wattle-eye, Shelly’s crimsonwing, yellow weaverbirds and the Great Blue Turaco can be sighted.
In the afternoon you shall be taken to the greater ssese islands for an island tour where you shall pass through majestic palm plantations, the kalaya caves which are believed to be the origin of Baganda people in Ssese islands, hold a lot traditional regalia with some locals believing they are healed once they visit the caves.
The evening shall be crowned with a sunset cruise and a candle lit dinner.
Day 3: Canoeing, sport fishing and island hoping
Ssese islands is made up of over 84 islands with each island offering a different scenery with untouched beauty, marvelous beaches and with island hoping you shall immerse yourself with what each islands beauty.
Day 4: Free day for relaxation
You shall have a free day at the hotel to rest, relax, rejuvenate and enjoy all the hotel amenities.
Day 5: Transfer to Entebbe
In the morning after a delicious breakfast, you shall be transferred back to Entebbe mainland by ferry from where our representative will welcome you and drive you back to your hotel or Airport which will mark the end of the safari.
