Overview
Our four days Queen Elizabeth National Park Trip Will Take you to the Western part of Uganda amidst rugged terrains and vast landscapes spanning Kasese, Kamwenge, Rubirizi and Rukungiri Districts. You shall enjoy a wholesome safari experience in Queen Elizabeth National Park comprised of chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura gorge, morning and evening game drives in Kasenyi plains and Ishasha, a boat excursion along Kazinga channel and a birding experience.
Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
You will be picked up from your hotel or airport by our guide driver in the morning and you shall embark on your 7-8 hours voyage to queen Elizabeth national park in kasese. You shall have a stopover in Masaka, specifically at the equator, which is a line that divides the earth into 2 equal parts, you will take a rest and stretch as you enjoy refreshments, photography and also engage in symbolic activities like straddling the line, standing in both hemispheres (north and southern hemispheres) simultaneously, and witnessing dramatic water demonstrations that showcase the Coriolis effect. You will also have an opportunity to buy yourself a souvenir at curial shops around the area, then get back to your journey.
Around 1pm, you will have a stopover for lunch after which you shall proceed to Kasese, check into your lodge, freshen up, have dinner, then rest for the night.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kyambura Gorge and boat safari on Kazinga channel
Very early in the morning, you will wake up to a sumptuous breakfast, and You will embark on a chimpanzee trekking adventure in Kyambura gorge.
Bordering the Southeastern part of Kazinga channel and the south shore of Lake George is Kyambura gorge a unique underground tropical rain forest that forms a buffer zone for animals moving out of Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is home to a large number of birds, primates and mammals like forest elephants, and hippos.
You shall have a morning briefing at the gorge visitor center where you are assigned walking sticks and UWA guides to lead you down the gorge. You start off with a 200-meter slope down the valley and as you move you stat hearing hoots and distant cries from the primates. Going through a labyrinth in the lush foliage, you shall come face to face with man’s closest relative the lost chimpanzees of Kyambura that live in communities of 30-80 members. You will have an hour in close proximity with them and watch them play, breastfeed, rest, mate and even fight after which you shall journey back to your lodge to freshen up.
In the afternoon, you will have a 32km adventurous scenic Launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel. The Kazinga channel is a long natural fresh water channel that links Lake Edward and Lake George which are part of the African Great Lakes system. The channel attracts abundant wildlife and bird species congregating along its banks, with lush greenery, swamps, view of the savanna grassland and fishing villages. Expect to see Hippos, Buffaloes, Elephants, Crocodiles amongst other animals sunbathing or having mud baths to cool off and an abundance of avian species both endemic and migratory which include the African Fish Eagle, the African skimmer, yellow-billed stork, Cormorants, Rwenzori Turaco amongst many others.
Later in the evening, you will go back to your hotel, freshen up, have dinner, then rest for the night.
Day 3: Morning game drive in Kasenyi plains and evening game drive in Ishasha
You will begin your day with a delicious cup of coffee/tea and then drive out for the early morning game drive that takes you to Kasenyi Plains which offers a great opportunity to see wild life that includes the big 4 out of the big 5 that are Lions and leopards camouflaging and lying in savanna grasslands in all their glory, Elephants plucking acacia trees to feed, Buffaloes taking their muddy baths, antelopes, water bucks, Kobs, warthogs etc. all grazing gracefully in the park. After your morning game drive, you will drive back to the lodge to freshen up, have lunch, rest as you gear up for an evening game drive in Ishasha the home of tree climbing lions.
In the afternoon you shall drive out to Ishasha sector which is bisected by the Ntungwe river and is famous for its unique tree climbing lions on candelabra or fig trees that have big branches that allow prides to hang above them. Located in the southwestern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ishasha is an unspoilt, pristine and remote region of the park and boasts with a magnificent landscape characterized by savannah woodlands, huge fig trees, acacia and cactus trees. In addition to the lions, leopards, antelopes, elephants, baboons, buffalos, Black and white colobus and vervet monkeys are frequently sighted.
You shall drive back to your lodge just in time for dinner and rest for the night.
Day 4: Departure
You will wake up very early in the morning and have your last breakfast at the hotel, check out of the hotel and journey back to Kampala or your next destination.
